The First Chapter

Hello everyone!

The (sudden) idea to start a blog came to me only a few hours ago and thanks to electronic media and a thousand “How to start your own blog” articles on the internet- we are already live! I am Kamalika- incase that wasn’t clear from the name already and this is my feeble attempt to hold onto whatever is left of my sanity. I am twenty five and without a day job for the first time since I completed college- in a brown over-performing household in a small town of the North Eastern India. Needless to say this is the first time in a long time that I am home for more than a week at a stretch. I don’t think I have outgrown my “rebel with/without a cause” phase yet and therefore its a sticky living situation.

‘Why the blog?’ asked no one ever. But here’s the answer anyway- writing is the only way I know to articulate, express or even simply put forward my story. Even in school I used to write my friends’ love letters against a hefty commission of a chicken fry from the school’s canteen. However, when it came to my multiple (failed) attempts at expressing love, I chickened out- lest someone judges my writing style or worse even- punctuation! So after not-so-careful consideration, I think I am finally ready to introduce you all to this side of my world.

I have learnt that blogs are supposed to have a ‘niche’- an area you determine keeping in mind your interest, your expertise and your target. Since I have none of these figured out- alongside most other things in my life right now- I am going to call it a lifestyle blog. Apparently thats the most vague way of categorising it. Daily routine? Lifestyle. Building habits? Lifestyle. Breaking habits? Lifestyle. Coping mechanisms? Lifestyle. Unhealthy love for my Chardonnay? Well, Lifestyle! Much like my Master’s degree, I don’t have the teensiest grasp of the subject but I love the fancy undertone it brings along with it!

I firmly believe in a month or two this will either become a SRK fan page or will be a hub to all “How Marvel lost its way” articles. A few book/movie reviews might creep out here and there at best. Unless, I wake up one fine morning and my brain decides to host a repeat telecast of this one instance from grade 4 where I had confused over with under on an english test- then I delete this entire blog and we promise to never speak of it again. Deal?

Here lies a heart, some words, and the mess in between.
